Weekend Activities May 30, 31 & June 1. |
We'll it's Thursday night and that means the weekend is almost here again. It's also time to start thinking about all the family friendly events happening around Metro Detroit.
Did you just love Spellbound or Akeelah and the Bee? How would you like to get a little taste of spelling bee fever for FREE? Check out the Official City Prep Spelling Bee on May 30 & 31 at Wayne State University's Community Arts Auditorium. Students from grades 1 - 8 will compete from 2-6 p.m. each day. May 31 is a great day to get out of the house. You can head over to Berkley and the neighborhood of St. John Woods for the Annual Garage Sale from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.. While you're at it, move over to Berkley Community Church for their garage sale from 8 a.m. - 3 p.m..
Head on down Woodward for Baby Loves Disco at Eden Nightclub in Ferndale. This family dance event runs from 1-4 p.m. and features toys, snacks and music spun by DJ Ryan Richard. Tickets are $12 for those able to walk and non-walkers get in free.
Or check out the Detroit waterfront for the Red Bull Air Race. The even showcases the world's best pilots in an exciting competition over the Detroit River. Tickets start at $15 and the event starts at noon May 31 & June 1.
June 1 travel north to Oxford for The 52nd Annual Kingsbury Country Fair at Kingsbury Country Day School. There will be carriage rides, arts & crafts, a rock climbing wall, midway, face painting and more all for FREE. Hours are noon - 5 p.m. Check out the link or call 248-628-2571 for more information.
If you live or play in A2 get your tastebuds ready for Taste of Ann Arbor. In addition to all the mouth watering food there will be 3 stages of entertainment including bands, commedians, clowns and dancing. On the east side of town you can join the Michigan Humane Society for the 20th Annual Mutt March to help raise funds for the organization. You can join the fun by supporting a walker or become one yourself. 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores. Call 866-MHUMANE for more information.
Every Sunday: Visit the Berkley Historical Museum and experience some local history. "The museum was established in 1993 and is administered by the Berkley Historical Committee. The museum displays memorabilia from the City archives and items contributed by local residents. Every year at Christmas, the museum features a holiday themed display."
