| Crafting With Kids |
As the days start getting shorter it's time to start thinking of indoor activities for your kids. It's sometimes hard to fight off boredom as winter drags on. Luckily there's still plenty of time too get a jump on cabin fever! In fact, this is the perfect time to build up supplies for crafting projects. Craft stores have a large display of kids crafts during the summer months when kids are home from school and that means big fall savings!
Need ideas? There are a ton of great websites with craft projects for you and your kids!
Don't forget to look for ideas at the store too! Craft chains like Michaels and JoAnn Fabric & Crafts often have FREE tear sheets located right next to the needed materials. It's an easy way to plan your project without taking up a lot of time.Labels: activities, clearance, FYI |

| Special Deals at the Hazel Park Family Dollar |
| Family Dollar in Hazel Park is moving to a new location and they have items marked down that aren't on sale at other stores. For example, they have all plant stands and planters marked down 25% while other Family Dollar stores are still full price. I also noticed some mark downs on Playskool toys that weren't on sale at other stores. Since this isn't a chain wide sale and is unadvertised it's a perfect opportunity to snatch up some bargains! | Weekend Gardening |
Are you looking for a fun and educational activity you can do at home with your kids? Why not try a little gardening? Kids love to plant their own special gardens and watch their plants grow. Now is the perfect time to create a garden for your little ones without breaking the bank! This time of year garden centers have deep discounts on both annuals and perennials. Home Depot, Lowes, English Gardens and Meijer all have super prices on their clearance racks!
Annuals are a great choice if you want to make this a yearly activity and have room for your child to have their own plot. Annuals allow your child to choose their own flowers and change the look of their garden year after year. Since annuals don't return every year you don't have to worry about planting early to let the roots establish.
Perennials are an excellent choice if you want to see how your plant changes and grows. They are also great if you don't have room to give your kid an entire garden, but have room for to add their special plant to an existing garden. There is still plenty of time in the growing season to plant perennials.
This is also the perfect time to pick up some garden decorations. Most stores have them deeply discounted. Don't limit yourself to garden centers either. Craft stores like Micheal's and JoAnn Fabrics have garden decorations too! The selection is slim, but I'm sure you and your kids will be able to find something wonderful to dress up your new garden.Labels: activities, clearance |

| Good News and Bad News |
First the bad news. The free Thomas Train coupon I posted is no longer being honored by Toys R Us. I asked the customer service desk why and they didn't have an answer. I emailed Toys R Us today to tell them how disappointed I was that they honored some of the coupons, but not everyone's. We'll see if they reply.
The good news also has to do with Toys R Us and their sister store Babies R Us. First up is the Toys R Us news. They are having a clearance sale starting this Friday, June 27th through July 5th. You get an extra 20% off clearance toys, clothing and shoes. Sale prices are up to 70% off!
Lastly, for anyone concerned about BPA in their baby bottles and who would like to replace them, Babies R Us on Gratiot in Roseville is accepting returns on these bottles. You can bring them to the store and exchange them for BPA free bottles. This is not a corporate wide event but varies from store to store. Some managers are choosing to take back these bottles as part of the Toys R Us/Babies R Us switch away from BPA bottles (by the end of the year they will only carry BPA free). The Toys R Us on Gratiot and the Toys R Us on Telegraph near 12 Mile are not participating.Labels: clearance, FYI |

| Office Supply Clearance at Toys R Us |
Yesterday I stopped into Toys R Us and found clearance priced office supplies, of all things! In the party favor section I found a small clearance shelf that had packing tape and 3M hooks marked down. The tape was Scotch brand and was priced $4 a roll. The same tape retails for $5.99 at Staples. They also had some of the smaller rolls with dispensers priced at $2.
In addition to the packing tape there were 3M Command hooks priced $2. These hooks are normally $3-7, depending on where you buy them. You can combine this clearance price with a printable coupon for $1 off and save even more.
Some notes on this deal: The coupon is a pdf file and can be printed as many times as you need. The Toy R Us in question is located on John R Road near Oakland Mall. Of course, if you need packing tape or hooks and don't live in the area it might not be a bad idea to check your local store for the same clearance.Labels: clearance, printable coupons |

| Great Deals at the Mall! |
My current house doesn't have central air conditioning and the window units are yet to be installed. That means I had to get out of the house today or risk melting! I headed off to The Somerset Collection in Troy to window shop. I certainly wasn't planning on researching a post while I was there but I found some great deals I had to write about.
The Disney Store is closing its doors in 8 days so everything is heavily discounted. Markdowns range from 30 - 80%, possibly even more. Discounts are taken off the lowest ticketed price so if you find clearance merchandise it'll be at rock bottom prices. There were a lot of stuffed animals for under $3.00 which could be used to make up a nice gift set by purchasing the matching movie or book. There were some prepackaged gift sets deeply discounted too. Not only are there great savings at the Somerset store, but the online store is holding its semi-annual clearance now!
I already posted about Bath & Body Works semi-annual clearance, but I didn't know that it's time for The Body Shop's clearance sale. Both stores have great products at huge discounts. Bath & Body Works has products advertised up to 75% off and The Body Shop's products are marked down up to 50%. Both stores have some great deal on gift sets too!
I don't know about you but when I find deals like this I love to stock up. I don't just buy for my house either, I stock up on gifts. I remember my mom keeping a supply of inexpensive gift items for teacher, baby sitter, last minute birthday party and holiday exchange gifts. The great thing about these gifts were how nice they were compared to the price she paid. We all know the value of stretching our dollars when it comes to the things we need. This is a fun way to put those dollars to work for the things we enjoy. Besides, every dollar you save is another dollar you can invest in your family, whether it's a savings account, paying off debt, or going on an outing that will build memories to cherish.Labels: clearance, Hot Deals |

| Great Toy Deal at Target on Southfield RD |
I was at Target on Southfield RD (between 12 and 13 Mile RDs) and noticed they have the Fisher Price Bounce and Spin Zebra on clearance. I've had my eye on this toy for a while so I was pretty excited to find it for only $22.48. That's 50% off the normal price of $44.99!
I used the $10 gift card I earned on MyPoints and a $5 off $25 toy coupon I previously printed from Target's Website to bring my total cost down to $7.48!Labels: clearance |

| Earth's Best at Target |
The Northland Target at 8 Mile RD and Greenfield has a selection of Earth's Best 2nd foods on clearance for 44 cents. If you print a $1 off 10 jar coupons from Earth's Best website you can bring the cost down to 34 cents per jar. Full price is 64 cents a jar so this brings your cost down nearly 50%!
At these prices it's not going to last long. I was there on 4/10/08 and there were still 40 or 50 jars left.Labels: clearance, coupons and sales |

Check out Baby Cheapskate for a printable Target coupon good for $5 off a toy purchase of $25.
Speaking of Target; if any are moms are fans of BabyLegs now would be a good time to visit the Target store at Dequindre and 16 Mile RD. They have NotSox by BabyLegs on clearance for $6. I have a feeling they aren't going to last long.Labels: clearance, printable coupons |

| Toy Safety |
I know a lot of parents are worried about buying toys from China and are looking for alternatives. I've been searching high and low to find quality toys that aren't made in China. I've learned that just because a toy company makes most of its products in China that doesn't mean they all are. Many companies have multiple plants, some even here in the U.S.!
For example, Manhattan Toy's Skwish is made in Thailand. And their Whoozit, while made in China, was tested on a local news program and found to be safe.
The Awesome Blossom has a Kids II Twist & Turn by Bright Starts and it's stamped "made in Isreal".
Little Tikes stands out among toy companies because you can search for products made in America right on their website. I've also noticed some of our Little Tikes toys are made in Isreal too.
And, of course, there are the big German toy companies like Sigikid and Haba. They make beautiful, quality toys but can be a little pricier. Still, it's worth keeping your eyes open for bargains on these brands because they're well worth it. In fact, Toys R Us has a limited selection of Haba toys on clearance right now!Labels: clearance, safe toys |

| Old Navy Super Clearance! |
Right now Old Navy has a super clearance going on in store and online. All of their clearance merchandise is an extra 50% off the lowest price. I bought most of The Awesome Blossom's winter wardrobe during this sale last year and this year I picked up a ton of stuff for summer. Yes, you heard me right, they still have some summer merchandise on the clearance racks! I found $2 shorts, $1 tees & tanks and socks for 24 cents! Plus, $2 tees and tanks for me, $4 capris and $8 jeans.
If you can find the time and have a couple of bucks this is a sale that's well worth checking out. I have a tendency to haunt Old Navy's website in January waiting for it to begin.Labels: clearance |
