Butterflies!
Have you been to Oakland Mall lately? It's time to go! This weekend is the launch of the Butterflies! exhibit. It's open Monday - Saturday noon - 8 p.m. and Sundays noon - 5 p.m. starting this Saturday, March 21st and ending April 11th. There will be displays, craft activities and an interactive butterfly house. Best of all admission is FREE!

As a bonus, if you don't get enough at the mall for only $8 you can take it home with you in the form of an Adopt-A-Butterfly kit. The kits include two caterpillars, food, and instructions on how to grow your own butterfly. A portion of the proceeds from the kits go to benefit Children's Miracle Network.

Oakland Mall is located on 14 Mile Road between John R and I-75. It's easy to get to from all points. Just take I-75 and exit 14 Mile east.

Get an Early Start on Your Holiday Season

I usually try to stick to family friendly events, but this one looks too fun to pass up even if it is only for the over 21 set.

The Metro Times presents the Mount Clemens Mocktober Fest! This FREE two-night events features 8 bars and a ton of tribute bands. Get your mock passport stamped at each bar and be entered into a drawing for a three day, two night trip for two to Toronto. Mocktoberfest kicks off tonight, September 26th, at 8 p.m. at the Emerald Ballroom. Check out the official website for details.

Bike Helmet and Booster Seat Sale
I posted about this in my weekly events post but I think it's important enough for a reminder. I know I plan on being there to get The Awesome Blossom a bike helmet!

The DMC Surgery Hospital is holding a Bicycle Helmet and Booster Seat sale from 4 - 6 p.m on September 18th. Experts from DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan will present bike and pedestrian safety tips at 5 p.m. Bike helmets will be sold for $5 or $10 and booster seats will be sold for $10 or $15. Art Supply Sale
I haven't attended this show before so I can't recommend it from personal experience. However, I have attended dealer shows to buy craft supplies in the past and have always found the deals to be amazing. So if you are looking to restock or start a craft supply stash for winter activities this is a great opportunity.

Check out the 41st Annual Michigan Ceramic Dealers Association Fall Fired Arts Fantasy Supply Show! You can find values on craft supplies below retail for both beginner and advanced crafters. There will be door prizes and Make-N-Takes as well glass, clay and fusion demonstrations. Shop for hard to find items, ceramic and pottery supplies, decals, fused glass supplies, jewelry findings and more. Admission is $4 and parking is free. I thought this was going to be a week light on events, but I started digging and came up with quite a bit. I am sorry that I'm posting it so darn late though.

September 13
Clawson, MI: Celebrate at the End of Summer Barbecue & Block Party sponsored by the Clawson DDA. The party is FREE and features bounce houses and obstacle courses, dunk tanks with local officials, food from local restaurants, a beer tasting tent, a cake auction and a FREE concert! Hazel Park, MI: Kids love firetrucks and police cars so why not check out The Dan and Emily Long Memorial Emergency Vehicle Show at the Hazel Park Harness Raceway. Dan Long was a police auxiliary volunteer who was killed in a car crash in March along with his daughter Emily. Arts & Scraps Sale!
Things are really crazy lately and I'm finding my blogging time to be sporatic. I'm able to grab a couple of minutes now and I really want to tell you about the sale coming up at Arts & Scraps. I love this place! They are a non-profit organization that recycles industrial scraps into crafting materials for children and the young at heart. This Saturday marks the start of their 3 TON Fabric sale. Check it out if you at all can.

Belle Isle Grand Prix - Free Prix Day
Gate admission to the Belle Isle Grand Prix is FREE on Friday, August 29th. You can also get a FREE paddock pass at any Comerica Bank location while supplies last.

What is a paddock pass? From the ticket FAQ:

A paddock pass is an optional purchase. It allows access to the paddock area which is considered the "locker room" of auto racing. The paddock allows up close viewing of race car preparation and teamwork.

Paddock passes or vouchers are provided in advance of the event. Prior to admittance to the paddock area the pass or voucher is exchanged for a wristband at the Paddock Redemption Tent near the paddock entrance gate.

Monroe, MI: Start the weekend early with the 3rd Annual River Raisin Jazz Series at the downtown Monroe Restaurants and Cafes. This is the last night of the popular FREE jazz series that runs every other Thursday until the 7th Annual River Raisin Jazz Festival on August 8, 9 & 10. Troy Daze Competitions
Think your toddler has what it takes to be crowned The Cutest Toddler at Troy Daze? If either of the child's parents or grandparents work or live in Troy then you are eligible to enter. Submit a photo of your child by August 15, 2008 for display during Troy Daze (Sept 11-14). Visitor will be able to vote for their favorite child and the kid with the most vote wins a cash prize. (Prize is determined by the number of votes).

Maybe you'd like to show off your skills as a photographer in the the photo contest. You don't have to live or work in Troy to enter, this contest is open to everyone. Entries are due by September 5, 2008. Please click the link for submission guidelines.

Rochester, MI: Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance. More than just a car show this is the cream of the crop. This event showcases the elegance, grace and opulence of the lifestyle surrounding the classic automobiles on display. Indulge your sophisticated tastes at this weekend's events. Belleville, MI: Rock out to the music of Kaleidoscope, featuring Top 40 Hits at Willow Metropark. The concert is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. FREE admission with $4 per car park pass. Troy, MI: Send a message during the kick-off of a "National Night Out" and enjoy a family friendly block party in Troy! Come out for hot dogs, watermelon, music and fun. Clowns and firetrucks will be on hand to entertain the kids. The party will be held 6 - 8 p.m. at the open area across from Troy Family Aquatic Center on Town Center Drive in Troy.
